This is an original gouache painting on an antique map of Manhattan, dating back to 1899. There are many landmarks whose names have changed in the last 125 years, and the map is visible through the sheer paint on this subject’s legs. I especially enjoyed the black draping that this model posed with. She reminds me of a darker, moodier Statue of Liberty.
