I painted a figure in gouache directly onto a vintage butterfly lithograph (c. 1963).

The figure is shown not in flight, but in a moment of adjustment — no longer becoming, but learning how to carry what she has already become. The work resists the expected narrative of transformation, instead dwelling in the aftermath: the authority that follows growth, the distance that comes with clarity, and the stillness that marks an arrival rather than an ascent.
