Painted on a torn page from an 18th-century New England penmanship notebook, this work is centered around the repeated practice script: “Important.” The repetition reads almost like affirmation — a mantra written again and again. The model’s pose embodies that mantra for me. Her floral tattoos, adapted from the model’s original sleeve, become symbols of self-love.
