I painted a nude on an antique postcard from Paris, 1909.

The postcard depicts “Pierrot,” formerly known as “Gilles,” a painting by Antoine Watteau, 1719. The piece was donated to the Louvre in 1869, where it still hangs today.

I love “Pierrot” because, for me, it tells a story of foolish heartbreak. Where our sweet clown is droopy-eyed and melancholy, I chose a reference from Astrid that juxtaposes with earnest passion. Both are in different stages of lovestruck, though she still embodies hope.
