Elize's Friend

Elize's Friend
$3,900.00
This original gouache painting was made on a piece of paper that’s 200 years old. In November 1822, Gent. Robert Johnson scribbled out a receipt for bodyguard services on behalf of Elize Steur. Elize’s husband, Jacob, signed the receipt, acknowledging payment in the amount of $1.25.
Notably, in this day, women weren’t allowed to conduct financial business — and were likely (purposefully) illiterate. But I like to think Elize had a friend.
The art measures approximately 8.5 in. x 5 in. Framed, this piece measures 12.75 in. x 9.75 in. This painting ships ready to hang.
