This is an original gouache figure painting on an anatomical heart from a German text book, dating back to 1902.

The heart is two-sided, and the cut-out was originally fastened in the book with a thin paper strip, so that both sides could be observed. I removed the heart from the book, painted on it, and mounted it to a piece of dramatic red velvet. The model who posed for this painting gently laid her hands over her own heart, protecting it.

This piece measures 5 × 6 inches and has been preserved in a deep burgundy glazed gallery frame. The final dimensions of the artwork are 6.5 × 7.5 inches. This piece arrives framed and ready to hang.
