This is an original gouache painting on a German school book from the 1870s. The words “Keep Hands Off” were scrawled on this tome by its original owner.

The book is quite literally falling apart, and I obsessively painted these two women — in their “hands on” embrace. I love the *grip* of this pose and its seeming defiance of the canvas.
