I painted a nude on a French student ID from 1926-27. Her name was Simonet, and she was studying at the Faculté des Lettres in Paris.

I liked thinking about Simonet’s poetry classes and philosophy classes, while painting on her old ID. I thought of her Ancient Greek Literature class and wondered if she got romanced by it all, like I do.

I chose this reference (captured in my home studio) of Astrid because of her dreamy stretch and euphoric expression.
