Supreme Being
Supreme Being
I painted a nude on a letter to the Supreme Court of Fairfield County, Ohio, dating back to 1850.
The content of the letter is rather pedestrian — a receipt for court fees? With references to corn and wheat? But flourish of it all is so romantic: The calligraphy is dripping with drama, and there are two red seals that fastened this piece of mail.
My reference model is as delicate as this 173-year-old piece of paper. This painting feels like a departure from my other work — more dreamlike, reverent. I feel holy about her.
“To the clerk of the Supreme Court Fairfield County — Ohio
Sir
