The New York View

The New York View

$1,900.00

I painted a nude on an old New York stereograph from the 1880s.

Stereographs consist of two nearly identical photographs, paired to produce the illusion of a three-dimensional image, usually when viewed through a stereoscope. In 1851, stereo daguerreotypes were exhibited for the first time to the general public at the London International Exhibition (Crystal Palace).

I like the idea of getting lost in an image as much as I like the illusion of depth :) Like the stereographs, Poppy definitely represents an escape for me: I got so lost in painting her beautiful lines, and I found myself taking on her blissful expression more than once.
